Bella Etching Detail

My name is Victoria Garland and I am a printmaker living in Shaftesbury, North Dorset.

Over the last few years I have concentrated on etching using steel-plates and occasionally copper. Etching offers such a variety of mark-making and textures and I enjoy the many stages of creating the image. The surface of the plate can be worked and put in the etching tray numerous times - this may take many months before I feel the image is complete and ready to edition on my etching press. The final step is to sign and number each print to produce a limited edition of each image. Etching (like all intaglio methods) is an intensive hand-made process and like many printmakers I do not complete printing an entire edition in one session and in my case, this results in variations in the colours of printing ink I use which I think highlights the fact that each image produced is individual.

Some general information about printmaking is on the FAQ page.
